How to sell clothes on Vinted: clear your wardrobe in a weekend
Sort your wardrobe into sell, donate and keep piles, photograph the sell pile in daylight, list each item with an honest description, condition and a fair price, then post within a couple of days of each sale. Doing it in one weekend gets everything live at once while you're motivated.
Why a clear-out is worth it
Most wardrobes have more value in them than people expect. In one clear-out, a Whistles wrap coat (£55–74), a Boden camel coat (£45–60) and an M&S jumper (£14–18) added up to as much as £152, from three items that weren't being worn. Rackd started because my dad had bags of good clothes like this and none of us had the time to list them.
Saturday morning: sort
- Pull everything out and make three piles: sell, donate and keep.
- Sell pile: branded items, coats, jackets, boots, knitwear, and anything new or barely worn.
- Donate pile: cheap basics and anything well worn. They take as long to list as a coat but sell for a pound or two.
- Wash, steam and check each item in the sell pile for flaws.
Saturday afternoon: photograph
Set up once near a window and work through the pile. Front, back, label, care label, details and any flaws. Our Vinted photo tips cover the full shot list. Doing all the photos in one go is much faster than one item at a time.
Sunday: list
For each item you need a title, description, category, brand, size, condition, colour, price and parcel size. The parts that take the longest are writing the description and working out the price:
- Title and description: brand, item, colour and size first, then material, condition and flaws. Use our Vinted description template.
- Condition: if you're unsure, pick the lower one. See the Vinted condition guide.
- Price: check what the same brand sells for, then list near the top of the range. See how much to sell clothes for on Vinted.
- Parcel size: pick the smallest that fits the item folded.
Listing everything on the same day also gets all your items in front of buyers together. People who like one item often look through the rest of your wardrobe and buy a bundle.
During the week: sell and post
- Reply to messages quickly. Fast replies win sales.
- Counter low offers instead of ignoring them.
- Post within a couple of days of each sale, packed neatly. Good reviews help everything else sell.
- Keep a few mailing bags at home so you're never waiting to post.
After a week
Anything with no favourites or messages is probably priced too high. Drop it by about 10%. Anything that still hasn't sold after a few weeks can go to the donate pile or a bundle.
Make it quicker with Rackd
Rackd is an iPhone app that does the slow part. Take photos of an item, and it reads the label and writes the title and description, suggests a fair UK price range and one price to list at, and then copies each part ready to paste into Vinted in the same order as Vinted's form. Your first 5 listings are free.
